Hunting Success

Jared, Mike Cornia and his two boys, Ben and John and I went deer hunting a week ago Saturday.  We left Firth around 5:15 AM headed for Sage Creek north of Mackay.  Jared and I rode together, along with Mikes son John.  At the base of the "hill", Mike left Jared and I to climb to the top from the South end while he and his sons drove farther up and would climb up from the East side.  It was perhaps 15 degrees when we started, but due to the steep climb we soon shed some of our sweat shirts.  Jared and I were near the top, about 9,000 feet elevation, when w

A Day of Drama

You know the kind. The day hits 10AM and you think "When does it end?" By noon you wonder if you should just hide in your room. At 3PM you wonder if you are dreaming because horror like this only happens in dreams and in the movies. By bedtime you have to take a sleeping aide to forget all of the other things you have forgotten to fix/address/pay/clean. Yup. We had one of those days this week.

King Corn

We just watched a very eye-opening documentary.  It's about the massive corn industry.  Having read a book called The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan, I was already painfully aware of the overconsumption of corn products.  This film just pointed that out more and more, and made me yet again want to never eat anything with High Fructose Cornsyrup.  I'd certainly recommend both the book and the film.  I LOVE the ending though.

When it rains it pours

We cautiously announce we finally have a renter.  After months of nothing, we ended up having to make a choice between three applicants.  What a change.  The family we chose is hoping to buy the house in a year, so we're excited about the possibility of having it all done.

A Special Sunday

Hi everybody,  it is really fun to read all of your blogs and hearing about all of your fun or exciting lives.  This has been a busy but some what sad week for us here in the Riverview ward.  This last Thursday morning we heard that a sweet l3 year old girl in our ward died during the night.  Her dad had gone hunting the night before and was not home.  Her mother had to go down stairs and get her up for school, where she found her.  She had a seizure during the night, and passed away.  It has been heart breaking for our ward as well as all of their family

Shoe horse

Many kids seem to go through the I-love-shoes phase.  Derek wore his favorite Pooh shoes until we could hardly stand the smell.  Then Charity wore them completely out.  Hyrum has discovered shoes in the last few months too.  He especially loves his "crocs" (read here, croc wannabes).  He can get them on all by himself and really hates it when it's time to take them off at night.  He's grown out of his nice soft leather shoes, and no investment has been made in more, so he'll probably have flat feet.

Grapefruit season

So, who knew grapefruit could be so good.  When we moved to a house with a tree nearly ready to harvest, we vowed to eat them and like them.  After only a few attempts with tons of sugar, I'm eating them bare and loving them.  When they are completely ripe, there's not very much bitter.  Yummy.  We'll try to smuggle a few out of the state for everyone.  And lemons too.  Those should be ready then.  Missing those good potatoes though and all the yummy fresh peaches and apples and berries of the midwest.

Hayride and Other Adventures

It souds like everyone is having a great month of October so far . Jared and Monica, congrats and I'm glad to hear it is official. I can't wait to see everyone at the wedding. Thanks for sponsoring an event that brings us all together once more. I am looking at the picture strip and the top of the page and am so excited to see all those happy faces in person!

She Said Yes! And I said Wow!

Once upon a time there was this kid named Jared. He decided he wanted to get married.  So he found this most amazing girl ever and threw rocks at her, but at least they were very sparkly. Her name was Monica Francom. Suprisingly she said yes. I know its amazing, but its true. So they decided that December is a great month, escpecially the 20. There is no better place for anyone to be that day than Logan Utah Temple at 1:30 p.m. This most amazing girl ever grew up in a little place called Honeyville, Utah.
