Of toddlers and other random tales

I guess I just feel we should fill you in on our day to day lives.  Hayden is turning into such a chatter box!  He repeats everything and is starting to 'pray' with help.  Mostly he mumbles until he thinks he should say the last word we said.  His favorite things to do include carrying Daddy's 'backpack' (lunch pail) to the front door in the morning and to the kitchen in the evening, read stories, hop like a frog, fly like an airplane, 'see' what we are doing, then 'Hayden do it' and go to the park.  His favorite park is a local park with a water fountain feature, but it has been to cold lately, so any park will do.  We talk a log about baby sister and where she will sleep and what she will do.  I still don't think he understands.  Do they every really understand with the second child?

We have been working hard to include scripture time into bed time.  Hayden had a hard time until we got him one of the little blue Book of Mormons with pictures in the front.  The rule is he has to stay in the room, but is allowed to play quietly while we read.  It works.... some of the time.  He even helps 'read' a verse each night.  That goes about like the prayers do, but he seems to really enjoy 'Hayden's turn.'

Craig is working through the ward audits for the year.  He just says when asked how it is coming or how it went, "There is always something that can be done better."  I have been keeping him busy with projects.  Poor guy started three projects this weekend, and in half way through all three.  We are working on getting Hayden's room set up for double duty, our room cleaned and set up for August, and our storage room organized to allow for better storage space.  Whew!

I am still loving my Beehive girls!  They are such amazing kids.  There is nothing like teaching the gospel to minds that want to know.  Today we diverted from the lesson topic of Prayer to talk about what happened in the Garden of Gethsemane, what it means and why the atonement is important.  Amazing.  The ward sewing group I am leading may be a dead project, but I have sure had fun doing it.  There just isn't much interest.  I've only had two people come, total.  Never the same person twice.  Alas, I guess I will return to my own sewing.  I don't mind!  I have so many projects to finish.  I can't wait to get Andrea's and Amber's baby bags done.  The design is greatly improved, as well as the durability.  Yea!  I also have some diapers to sew (thank you, Alicia!).  All of this in the few hours a day of energy I seem to have.  How do you do it, Alicia and Andrea?  I feel like a blimp (you are right, Alicia, I am surely not as big as I think I am) and this baby just seems so HEAVY (Andrea, you are my hero).

Keeping up with my Dad's health needs keeps us all on our toes.  He recently had an artery graft in his right arm to prepare for ever approaching dialysis and seems to be healing well.  They had to use a bovine artery, and we joke with Dad about feeling a new affinity for his bovine relatives when ever we see beef.  The new artery puts restrictions on where we can check his blood pressure and blood sugar.  He also had cataract surgery, which has improved his eyesight dramatically.  This requires an eye drop regimen four times a day.  He and I joked last week that his whole life is now contained on a single spread sheet every day- when he took his pills, his blood sugar, blood pressure, eye drops, what and when he ate, etc.  This helps us all know what is happening when there is a 'shift change'.  We now joke that Mom is the 'Head Nurse', I am the 'CNA' and Craig is left to the title of 'Orderly'.  My Mom has been working a lot of hours and has started over nights for a week or so.  This is hard on all of us, but especially Dad.  Hayden cried when she left for work this evening, and I know Dad was not not his cheerful self.

We are starting to make plans for a Thanksgiving visit to Firth.  We want Mom and Dad to meet our new baby.  We have been talking about when we will see all of the other babies in the family.  At this point it is in the Lord's hands, as we have NO idea!  We hope to see Andrea and True at Thanksgiving, but that leaves our Florida and Georgia family.  Moments like this I wish I had endless money and time.

I am afraid this has become a rather long-winded discourse.  Craig is now asleep on the floor beside me (really!) and my own eyes are heavy.  Let us know how you are!
